Steps to creating a durable finish that will last a lifetime
Step 1:
Initial site meeting
- take measurements
- discuss your goals, needs, wants, and timeline
- answer any questions you have
Step 2:
Estimate
- we will send you a free estimate
- discuss and make any changes
Step 3:
Preparing a solid base
- we will call local utility providers and obtain locates for any buried infrastructure
- excavate the area, remove any existing asphalt/ concrete (all material will be properly disposed of)
- all topsoil and organic matter will be removed to ensure the ground under your concrete will not shift and settle
- a granular, compacted base will be installed
Step 4:
Forming
- forms and steel stakes will be installed around the soon to be concrete area
- Rebar will be placed in the concrete for added strength to help eliminate shifting, cracking and separating that is often caused by our harsh Canadian winters
- foam expansion joint will be installed along any adjacent hard surfaces. This will allow your new concrete to expand and contract in the hot and cold temperatures without cracking and shifting other surfaces
Step 5:
Concrete
- place, level and finish concrete
- depending on the desired finish different steps will now be taken
- Broom finish and selected border will be applied
- Exposed aggregate finish selected border will be applied and a chemical agent will be applied to the top surface to be washed off at a later time
-Stamped finish selected release agent and stamp will be applied
Step 6:
Relief cuts and clean up
- forms and steel stakes will be removed
- Broom finish will be saw cut to help control cracking and then washed
- Exposed aggregate will be washed to expose the aggregate, saw cut to help control cracking, and washed again
- Stamped finish will be washed to remove excess release agent, saw cut to help control cracking and washed again
- topsoil will be replaced in any damaged areas, to restore these areas grass seed or sod and fertilizer will be applied
Step 7:
Sealing
- Exposed aggregate and Stamped finishes will be sealed to maintain that stunning look for years to come
Things to remember!!
****DO NOT PUT SALT ON CONCRETE***
- sand is a great option, and provides excellent traction
- salt will cause the surface to pop and chip resulting in an undesirable finish
Sealer needs to be reapplied
- sealer should be reapplied every year or every other year depending on your situation
- contact our professionals to find out what is right for you!!
